Original 19th-century lithograph by Eugène Flandin (1809–1889), published in Paris in 1853 by Gide & J. Baudry.

This finely detailed architectural view depicts Fort Saint-Nicolas, the 17th-century fortress guarding the entrance of the Old Port of Marseille. The composition highlights the fortifications rising directly from the sea, with maritime elements in the background, capturing the strategic and architectural character of the site.

The print depicts a highly ornate Polish-style canopy bed (“Lit à la Polonoise”), richly adorned with carved elements and draped fabric, typical of French aristocratic furniture in the Louis XVI / Rococo transition era.
