German Catholic Prayer Book “Lob Gottes” – Pocket Devotional Book c.1911

Rare small-format German Catholic prayer and devotional book titled “Lob Gottes” (“Praise of God”), published in Kevelaer, Germany by the historic Catholic publisher Butzon & Bercker. The title page describes it as a “Gebet- u. Andachtsbüchlein” (prayer and devotional booklet) prepared by a Roman Catholic priest with ecclesiastical approval.

The book contains 245 pages and includes various Catholic prayers and devotional texts in German printed in traditional Gothic / Fraktur script. One page bears a handwritten inscription dated 28 May 1911, likely recording a First Communion or personal religious dedication, giving the piece strong personal and historical character.

Rare mid-19th-century Greek Bible containing both the Old and New Testament, printed in Oxford for the British and Foreign Bible Society (BFBS). The title page notes supervision by Thomas Combe and states that the text is rendered “from the archetypes” (ἐκ τῶν ἀρχετύπων), reflecting the traditional Koine/Septuagint and New Testament Greek text widely used in the Orthodox world during the 19th century.

This is a solid example of BFBS missionary/educational printing in Greek, produced for distribution across Greek-speaking communities.
