Original four-page handwritten letter, written in Greek and dated September 12, 1921, on the illustrated lithographed letterhead of the historic Grand Hôtel – Les Thermes de Sylla.

The letter was known in the early 20th century as one of Greece’s most prestigious spa hotels and continues to operate today under the name Thermae Sylla Spa Wellness Hotel.

The illustrated hotel letterhead is lithographically printed and bears the imprint:

“Lith. G. Stangel & Co., Athènes”

Printed by G. Stangel & Co., one of the most prominent Greek lithographic printers of the early 20th century.

Addressed to the historic Greek firm J.C. Tsatsos & Fils, located at 33–35 Rue d’Hermès (Ermou Street), Athens, the documents detail furniture sets, quantities, prices, shipping terms, sea freight costs, production timelines, and payment conditions. The inclusion of period illustrations of wicker furniture enhances their documentary and design value.

Good overall for its age, with original folds, period wear, and a large visible stain, consistent with use and storage over time.

Dated 1923, this is a fascinating multi-lingual commercial accounting document printed in Ottoman Turkish, Armenian and French, reflecting the multicultural character of Constantinople in the early 20th century.

The document bears an original Ottoman revenue stamp (10 paras) and contains authentic handwritten entries of purchased items and amounts, with a total sum recorded.

The name and multilingual format strongly suggest that the bookshop was most probably Armenian-owned.
