Refugee Era Institutional Statutes – LOT of 2 Original Booklets

Offered is a rare lot of two original statutes booklets (Καταστατικά) issued in Athens in 1924 by the Armenian Red Cross and the Armenian Blue Cross, documenting the earliest organized welfare efforts of the Armenian refugee community in Greece.

Printed in the immediate aftermath of the Armenian Genocide and the Asia Minor Catastrophe, these publications represent primary-source institutional documents from the formative period of Armenian diaspora organization in interwar Greece.

1) Armenian Red Cross – Athens, 1924

Historical Importance

These booklets are authentic primary documents from the refugee reorganization period of the Armenian diaspora in Greece.

They reflect:

Original business letter dated 2 May 1924, issued by L’Equitable des États-Unis (The Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States), on official printed letterhead of its Paris office.

The letter is addressed to Hovhannès Missirian, via the Armenian commercial firm L. & L. Varbetian (3 Rue Edouard Law, Athens, Greece). It concerns the conversion of a life insurance contract, dividend allocation, interest deductions, and related accounting details, reflecting standard international insurance and financial practices of the early 20th century.

The document bears period typography, full financial figures, and the handwritten signature of the Chief Cashier, offering a clear example of cross-border insurance correspondence linking Paris, New York, and Athens.

Fair for the age, folds, age toning, stains, handling marks.

Original 1926 medical and ambulance service receipts issued in Paris by the Société des Ambulances Parisiennes, a private but state-controlled emergency medical organization founded in 1880.

The documents record ambulance and nursing services provided in January 1926, including:

• motorized ambulance transport (ambulances automobiles),

• nursing and medical care,

• patient nourishment,

• associated service fees (pourboire compris).

The receipts are issued to Monsieur Théology, residing at a Paris hotel, and bear original fiscal revenue stamps (timbres fiscaux) of 25 centimes, as well as period stamps, handwritten entries, and the original signature of the Administrateur-délégué.
