Each plate features:

- bathymetric soundings (depth measurements in pieds / brasses)
- navigational lines and harbour approaches

€1,125.00Complete antiquarian volume devoted to Ancient Greece, containing 113 single-leaf engraved plates and 2 large folding maps of Greece by T. Duvotenay.
The engravings illustrate a wide range of subjects related to classical antiquity, including ancient temples, architectural details, archaeological sites, monuments, landscapes, mythological and historical figures, as well as views of significant locations in Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean.
The plates were executed by prominent Italian engravers of the late 18th – early 19th century, among them Salimbeni, Butasson, Lazzari, Tiozzo, Podestà, Bosa, Simonetti, Zuliani, Dal Pozzo, and Musitelli.
The maps and plates are finely engraved and reflect the scholarly and artistic interest in classical antiquity characteristic of the period.
Condition:
The volume is complete with all plates and both folding maps present. The engravings are generally clean, with light age toning and minor spotting consistent with age. The original binding is worn, with wear to spine and covers and some separation; the book would benefit from professional rebinding. Sold as is, complete.
