Original 1882 Greek commercial receipt from the well-known Athens shop “Neoterismoi”, located on Ermou Street, the main commercial avenue of the city.
Issued by V. Heracleous & N. Gavallas, sellers of textiles, wool, silks, ready-made garments, capes, collars and various fashion items.

The document is fully handwritten and dated 27 February 1882, issued to a female customer.
It features a beautiful printed header typical of late 19th-century Athenian commerce.

At the center appears a 10 Lepta Greek revenue stamp of the 1875–1882 period, cancelled with the oval company handstamp “B. HERACLEOUS & N. GAVALAS – ATHENS”.

Age toning, fold line, minor edge wear, light stains. Revenue stamp intact. Text fully readable and overall very good condition.

Brindesi was well known in the capital’s high society and advertised himself as:
• Draper & Tailor (Émproppratis – Draperies, Soieries Françaises & Anglaises)
• Supplier of collars, cravats, shirts, and fine textiles
• Official supplier to H.R.H. Prince Guillaume de Holstein-Glücksburg.

Edge wear, light browning, old fold lines, small margin imperfections. Overall well-preserved for a 19th Century trade document.

The sheet features a finely printed portrait of a French officer of the Chasseurs, accompanied by a printed narrative praising the endurance and discipline of the 1er Bataillon de Chasseurs, describing a forced march of 112 kilometers completed in 39 hours.

Such printed testimonial sheets were created to record and celebrate notable military achievements and were often preserved in private or institutional collections.

The Bank of Crete was established in 1899 during the period of the Autonomous Cretan State and operated as both a commercial and mortgage bank, holding the privilege of issuing banknotes on the island until its absorption by the National Bank of Greece in 1919.
