These historic financial documents were part of the major 720 million franc loan issued on 26 June 1888 to fund the first failed attempt to build the Panama Canal under Ferdinand de Lesseps.
Both certificates were meant to be exchanged for definitive bonds in 1889, shortly before the collapse of the company and the famous Panama Scandal (1892–1893).

Printed in the immediate aftermath of the Armenian Genocide and the Asia Minor Catastrophe, these publications represent primary-source institutional documents from the formative period of Armenian diaspora organization in interwar Greece.
