The certificate confirms the admission/initiation of a member into the lodge and bears original handwritten signatures of lodge officials, including the Worshipful Master and Secretary.
The diploma features:
- elaborate Greek Masonic typography,
- traditional Freemasonry abbreviations and symbols,
- official decorative layout,
- and period handwritten signatures.
Particularly interesting historically, the Melis Lodge was originally founded in Smyrna in 1867 under the auspices of the Grand Orient of France before relocating to Athens after the Asia Minor Catastrophe of 1922.
Greek Freemasonry itself has a long and important historical tradition dating back to the early 19th century.

Greek WWII Occupation Era Food Ration Book – Ministry of Supply & Distribution – Employee Coupon Booklet c.1940s
€22.00Original Greek “Food Ration Book for Employees” (Δελτίον Τροφίμων Μισθωτών), issued by the Ministry of Supply and Distribution during the WWII / Occupation era in Greece, circa 1940s.
A highly evocative historical document directly connected with the wartime rationing system and food distribution controls implemented during the Axis occupation of Greece and the severe famine years of the early 1940s. The booklet contains multiple original unused ration coupons for food distribution.
The cover bears the official title:
“Υπουργείον Εφοδιασμού και Διανομών – Δελτίον Τροφίμων Μισθωτών”
The booklet is personalized with the original owner’s handwritten details and occupation (“παντοπώλης” / grocer), making it an excellent piece of Greek social and economic history.
Inside are numerous detachable food ration coupons (“Τρόφιμα Μισθωτών”), many still preserved intact and unused.
Such ration booklets were used throughout occupied Greece during the food shortages and famine conditions of WWII, especially during the catastrophic years 1941–1944.
Condition:
Very good overall condition for age with light wear, minor handling marks and natural aging. Interior coupons remain well preserved with many unused examples still attached.
